The Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) issued a response to American Growth Boundaries (December 2001). The piece is authored by John Fregonese Fregonese-Calthorpe Associates and former planning director of Portland Metro), Lynn Peterson (Tri-Met, the Portland transit agency) with the assistance of Dr. Arthur C. Nelson (Georgia Tech). CNU is a principal proponent of so-called "smart growth" policies and the leading organizational advocate of "new urbanism." The Georgia Public Policy Foundation and Wendell Cox released comments on the Congress of New Urbanism report in Misfiring from the Urban Moat.
