Buenos Aires Urbanized Area
Population & Density Estimate Released
25 September 2001: Demographia announces the release of an urbanized area population and density estimate for Buenos Aires.
The Buenos Aires urbanized area (built-up area) is estimated to have a 1998 population of 11,200,000, living in 1.070 square miles, for a population density of 10.467 per square mile (1,614 per square kilometer).
The Demographia estimate represents one of the first efforts to quantify the extent and population of the "built up" portions
of the Buenos Aires area. It is based upon 1998 official census estimates, on-site examination and review of the latest detailed maps. The urbanized portions of
pardidos (subdivisions
of Buenos Aires Province) and the city of Buenos Aires (Capital Federal) are included in the estimate
- The Capital Federal district (city of Buenos Aires) has 2.9 million people in 77 square miles for a population density of approximately 37,600 per square mile
(14,500 per square kilometer).

Inner ring suburbs have a population of 5.2 million in 360 square miles, for a population density of 14,463 per square mile (5,580 per square kilometer).

Outer ring suburbs have a population of 3.1 million in 630 square miles, for a population density of 4,886 per square mile (1,185 per square kilometer).
